Touched down and looking good!

5-14-11

Wow, was it a long day! Currently it's 9:30pm in Paris, France and I am dead tired. Whoo! Between airport security, 8+ hr plane ride, getting through customs, and learning the basics around France, I'm just about out of energy. But boy, did I have fun!

For starters, your best bet for contacting me is via e-mail or Facebook. I didn't get texting while I was home and international calling costs an arm and a leg. So if you'd like to get a hold of me, the phone is only serving as an alarm for the next two weeks.

Getting the plane off the ground was exciting in itself. The captain came over the PA system to inform us that the reason we were still taxiing instead of taking off was due to an abnormally large terrapin refusing to vacate the runway. Apparently turtle back-up was called in because it was ornery as well as huge. Silly turtle.

Anyhoo, the flight went well and I'm here in one piece. My baggage all came with me, nothing liquid exploded, and I'm ready to rock and roll! We learned how to use the Metro, how to avoid getting runover in the streets, where the local grocer is, and basically frolicked around Paris for a while. We saw the outside of the Notre Dame Cathedral. We wandered around on some narrow allies. We took pictures of random and cool things. We had dinner at a street side restaurant. It was wonderful. Half the time I had no idea where we were, but our professors kept us on course.

Hmm. To add to the fun and commotion, I just blew the fuse in my voltage converter for the outlet and tripped the breaker for my room. Woot woot, blogging in the dark! The manual didn't mention the Lo --- Hi switch on the back of the converter. I'm going to go on the assumption that a computer doesn't run on Lo voltage. Whoops. Looks like I need to figure out how to get my lights back on before my roommate wakes up in the morning and can't turn on anything.

Well, guess that's my next task before bed. Good thing I brought my rechargeable mini-flashlight. Because it's dark in here without it! Good night, everyone. :]

  2. I can just see this fumbling that is going to be looking for the light switch. We did that too in one of our hostels. Apparently running a hot water kettle AND a computer (playing a DVD) just isn't a a good idea. I'm glad you were prepared for it with your flashlight...if I didn't know any better...I might think you were a Boy Scout in another life.
