It feels so... so touristy!

5-17-11

So today was fun! We had class in the morning and early afternoon, where we learned about Ag Policies, how AgroParisTech works, and the US Embassy and foreign Ag policies. After class, Kendra and I decided the sunshine was too beautiful to waste. We came back to the dorm and changed into jogging clothes and decided to explore the park behind our dorm.

Kendra actually ran and I walked leisurely, so we played an exercise version of Hide 'N Seek. She ran one way and I wandered the other way, and she had to keep running until she found me again. I found swans, a pond, sugar crepes, ducks, people making out, a water fall, and several odd statues before I found Kendra. To my credit, I kept moving so the game was still fair. She got the 30 minutes workout she was hoping for and I got some great pictures of the park. We did a cool down walk to go find the rose garden she'd passed while looking for me. Those flowers are just about to pop and will be beautiful in a few days. We plan on heading back through the park a few more times to see how the roses are progressing during our stay.

After we got back, a few of us headed over to the Eiffel Tower. It's definitely impressive in person. We got some great pictures of, near, around, and under the tower before the sun went down. We were beat so we didn't stick around to watch it light up. Saving that for another night. Once our stomaches started growling, we made our way back to the dorms and whipped up some pasta and tomato sauce. For once, food we didn't have to order! Don't get me wrong; the food at cafes is magnificent here. But I like not having to sound like a silly American every time I go to say "Je voudrais... crepe?" The crepe guy today asked if I was Canadian or American because I'd screwed up the word for sugar pretty bad. Whoops. At least I'm trying!!

Tomorrow we're going to spend the day in the Champagne region. Woohoo! The camera is charging and I'm psyched to see some real dirt. To be on a farm again would be glorious after all this concrete and big city life. I just want to smell some country, for real. :]
